This project explores how design constraints shape product development, balancing form and function to enhance user experience. A powered device is selected and recontextualized to adapt to a new set of environmental and functional constraints. Through research, observation, and iterative design, constraints are analyzed, modified, and applied to generate innovative solutions using the Moscow design method. The project was restricted to just sketching through the development stages.
For this project I chose to redesign a palm sander, adapting it to a hobbyist’s model-making sander with the new environment being in a home, most likely a bedroom or studio space.
